Services Held
Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Vos, formerly of Pella were held Saturday, October 18, 1997, at DeJong Chapel of the First Reformed Church of Pella. Rev. Kenneth A. Dykstra officiated the services. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Born in the state of Missouri on May 25, 1911, Gertrude came to Pella as a young girl. She lived all of her adult life in the Otley, Pella and Monroe area. On March 3, 1934, she and Vernie Nelson Vos were united in marriage at Otley. To this union two sons were born: David Nelson and Mark N. Vos. Gertrude and Nelson lived in Otley following his discharge from the Army while he worked as a rural letter carrier out of the Otley Post Office. During this Gertrude worked as a district manager for Beauty Counselors of Iowa and as a hostess at the Ramada Inn in Newton. Nelson passed away on October 26, 1970, at eh age of 60.
Following his death, Gertrude moved to Pella, where she resided until becoming a resident of Fountain West Care Center in West Des Moines in 1994. Gertrude was cared for there until the time of her death, which came at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines October 16, 1997.
Gertrude was a member of the First Reformed Church in Pella, and P.E.O., Chapter BH.
Gertrude is survived by her son, Mark N. Vos and his wife, Teri of Urbandale; and three grandchildren.
Gertrude was preceded in death besides her husband, Nelson, by her son, David N. Vos.
