Life Story of Dirk Vos
Funeral services were held March 19 at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella for Dirk Vos, 95, of Pella. The Rev. Henry Petersen officiated. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Mr. Vos died Friday, March 15, at the Pella Community Nursing Home.
He is survived by nine children, Mrs. Henry (Clazena) Roelofsen of Sully, Bernie of Newton, Mrs. William (Durky) Bandstra and Richard of Pella, Marion of Grandville, Mich., John H. and Mrs. Andrew (Laura) Slings of Pella, Paul D. of Monroe, and Harold of Pella; 43 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Conrad (Cynthia) Colsman of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Albert (Nellie) Herder of Tucson, Ariz., Mrs. Jack (Louise) Volcklandt of Denver, Colo., Mrs. Martin (Marie) Monsma of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Harold (Doris) Ballast of Denver, Colo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jennie; four children, a daughter who died in infancy, Helen, William D., and Mrs. Jake (Adrianna) Jansen; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; six brothers; and four sisters.
Dirk Vos was born January 10, 1879, in Genderen, the province of Noord Braband in the Netherlands, the son of William and Klazina Van Mersbergen Vos. He came to America in 1892 at the age of 13 years with his parents who settled near Pella. On February 22, 1903, he was united in marriage with Jennie Bruxvoort at Sully. Mr. and Mrs. Vos farmed in the vicinity of Sully and Pella until 1949, when they moved into Pella.
He was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church of Pella.
