Mrs. William (Ruby Irene) Ver Steeg, 79, of Monroe, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Sunday at the Jasper County Care Facility southeast of Newton.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Jerry B. Wolcott, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.

Survivors are her husband; a son, Wilbur F. of Newton; eight grandchildren, Dennis, Ronald, Gary, Richard, Randal, Thomas, Debra and Michael; and a great grandson, Scott; three sisters, Mrs. Delmar (Helen) Elscott of Newton, Mrs. Pearl Rohrdanz of Killduff and Mrs. Jesse (Florence) Butin of Reasnor; and two brothers, Harold Schnug and Merlin Schnug both of Reasnor.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

Mrs. Ver Steeg was a member of the American Veterans Auxiliary, Pythian Sisters and Monroe United Methodist church.

The daughter of Henry D. and Margaret Kling Schnug, she was born June 19, 1895 near Galesburg and attended Galesburg school and Central College at Pella.

She was married April 3, 1920 at Newton.
