Life Story of William Ver Steeg
William Ver Steeg passed away at the Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton on Friday, August 19, 1977 at the age of eighty-one years, nine months, and twenty-eight days.
Services were held Aug. 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Jerry B. Wolcott officiating the services.
Interment was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Mr. Ver Steeg is survived by his son, Wilbur Francis Ver Steeg of Monroe; eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. He is also survived by two brothers and two sisters, John Ver Steeg of Des Moines, Harry Ver Steeg of Knoxville, Elizabeth (Mrs. Don) Oliver and Anna (Mrs. Harry) Zickel, both of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers, Nicholas, Edward, and Arie Ver Steeg, and one sister, Margaret, Mrs. Arthur Dearinger.
William was born near Galesburg, Iowa, on Oct. 21, 1895, the son of Art and Elizabeth (Dunnick) Ver Steeg. On April 3, 1920, he was united in marriage to Ruby Irene Schnug, who preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 1974. He was engaged in farming for many years in Jasper County and later worked and retired at the Maytag Company in Newton after being there for twenty-six years.
