Services Held
Funeral services for A. E. “Joe” Sibert, 66, of Newton, were Tuesday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. DuWayne Hanke, pastor of the community Reformed Church in Newton, officiating. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.
Mr. Sibert died of heart failure, Friday, April 11, 1997, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
The son of Ferman and Mae Alice Sibert Greene, he was born January 26, 1931, in Confidence. He graduated from Corydon High School in 1948.
He married Julie A. McKay July 3, 1975 in Boulder, Colorado.
A lifelong resident of Jasper County, residing in Newton and Monroe, Mr. Sibert was employed by the Maytag Company as a superintendent of dishwasher assembly, retiring May 31, 1992. He was a member of the Community Reformed Church in Newton; the Newton Moose Lodge No. 923; American Quarter Horse Association; Buck Creek Muzzle Loaders; Navy Reserves; Jasper I-Club; and the Mid-Iowa Driving Association.
Survivors include his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Susie of Ackworth and Allen and Jana Anthony of Newton; two daughters and a son-in-law, Becky and Carl Van Ryswyk of Prairie City and Lynette Anthony of Newton; five grandchildren; two brothers, Karl “Bob” Sibert of Cedar Rapids and Gerald Greene of West Memphis, Arkansas; and three sisters, Elizabeth Pelock of Newton, Betty Lou Pierschbacher of Chariton, and Evalee Hunderdosse of Lacona.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Douglas.
