Services Held
Graveside funeral services for John Shuey were held on Friday September 15, 2006, at Waveland Cemetery in Prairie City.
John W. Shuey, age 81 of Prairie City, died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines.
Memorials may be given to Taylor Hospice House in Des Moines and online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The son of Lewis Glenn & Bertha (Withers) Shuey, John was born on March 19, 1925 in Rhodes, Iowa. On January 13, 1947, he was united in marriage to Marjorie Briles in Colfax. John worked at Kent Feeds for many years. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. John had a great love for baseball and softball. He was elected into the Softball Hall of Fame.
Those left to honor his memory are his wife of 59 years Marjorie in Prairie City, a son, Mike Shuey and his wife Kim of West Des Moines, two grandchildren, Stacie and Six, and two great grandchildren, Kyra and Kyren. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Hendee of Colfax and Shirley Clippenger of Colorado Springs, Colorado, two brothers, Glen Shuey of Colfax and Dick Shuey of Henderson, Nevada and two half brothers, Jerry Mellor of Pleasant Hill and Jimmy Mellor of Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry.
