Life Story of Effie Sherwood
Mrs. John Wesley (Effie) Sherwood, 85, of Knoxville, a longtime former resident of Monroe, died Monday, June 19 at Collins Memorial Hospital in Knoxville.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Knoxville. Burial was in the Zion Cemetery at Pershing.
Survivors are four sons, John of Oakhill, Tex., Kermit of Knoxville, Robert of Des Moines and Bille of Texarkana, Tex.; four daughters, Mrs. Martha Shivvers of Pleasantville, Mrs. Mary Mae Gordon of Knoxville, Mrs. Francis Kirkwood of Knoxville and Mrs. Noralea Ingle of Swan; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Edith Hanna of Knoxville; and a brother, Verlan Haines of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
The daughter of Israel and Mary Bailey Haines, she was born Aug. 25, 1886 in Marion County.
