Life Story of Howard Sheeler
Howard William Sheeler, 63, of rural Monroe, a lifelong resident of Monroe, died Sunday at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Monroe, United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jack Porter, pastor of the Monroe United Presbyterian Church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Monroe Silent City Cemetery.
Survivors are his wife, Lilly, two sons, Ivan and Robert, both of Monroe; five daughters, Mrs. Richard (JoAnn) Aalbers and Mrs. Kenneth (Mary) Kingdon, both of Monroe, Mrs. Harold (Cathleen) Jackson, Mrs. Harold (Martha) Brayton and Gladys Sheeler, all of Newton; and two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Berkenbosch of Reasnor and Mrs. Gale Visser of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson and a granddaughter.
Mr. Sheeler was a member of the Tool’s Chapel church.
An employee of Jasper County, he was parts man in the road division at the time of his retirement in 1969.
The son of Harold and Mary Bigley Sheeler, he was born October 20, 1907 near Monroe and attended Monroe area schools.
He was married to Lilly Van Baale November 17, 1926 at Monroe.
