Services Held
Engelena (Lilly B.) Sheeler, 89, a lifelong resident of the Monroe and Pella communities, died Sunday, October 1, 1995, at Heritage Manor Center in Newton, Iowa.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 4, 1995, at the Monroe Presbyterian Church.
The Rev. Marvin Potter, pastor of the church conducted services. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County or her church will be accepted.
Surviving are her children Ivan Sheeler and Mary Lou; Robert W. Sheeler and Nona; and Mary Kingdon of Monroe; Kathleen Sheeler Jackson and Harold; Martha Sheeler Brayton and Harold of Newton; JoAnn Pierce and Randy of Colfax; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; along with two sisters, Betty Snook and Gladys Sprague of Newton, and one brother Les Van Baale of Monroe.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard W.; a daughter Gladys Sheeler DeJoode; three brothers and three sisters.
The daughter of Frank and Catherine Kaldenberg Van Baale, she was born March 18, 1906, in Marion County near Pella.
She was married November 17, 1926, to Howard W. Sheeler in Newton, Iowa. They resided east of Monroe until she moved to town in 1971.
