Barbara J. Shannon, 67, of 1105 E. 12th St. S. died of cardiac arrest Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be Friday at 10:30 p.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church in Monroe with the Rev. Bill LeMosy officiating. Burial will be at Vandalia Cemetery in rural Prairie City. Reese Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Friends may call today at 1 p.m. at the funeral home where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
The daughter of Henry and Alta Deaton Shannon, she was born Feb. 6, 1934 in Runnells. She graduated from Monroe High School, was a member of Monroe Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday School. She helped with crafts and bingo at Heritage Manor. Miss Shannon was a dietary aide at Heritage Manor before retirement. She lived in Monroe prior to moving to Newton 24 years ago.
Survivors include two sisters, Helen Colyn of Monroe and Marlene Versteeg of Knoxville; and a brother, Marlan Shannon of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and three brothers.

Services Held
Services for Barbara J. Shannon, were held Friday, November 16, 2001, at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Vandalia Cemetery.
