Services Held
Services for Marvin Seekamp of Pella were held Monday, June 19, 2000 at the First Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. Conley A. Zomermaand officiated the services. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Marvin Dale Seekamp was the first of five children that were born to Vernon Owen and Katherine Van Der Hart Seekamp. His parents were living in Des Moines when Marvin was born on September 23, 1957. The family then moved to Leighton, Iowa, where Marv began his grade school education. Later they moved to Pella where he continued his schooling and graduated from Pella High School with the Class of 1976. Following his high school graduation, Marv began working at Pella Supply company. In 1978, he purchased the business from Melvin Pothoven, who eventually became his father-in-law. On September 6, 1980, Marv was united in marriage with Sharon Eileen Pothoven at the First Reformed Church in Pella. They had two children: Wendy Sue and Scott Allen. Marv continued ownership and operation of the Pella Supply Company along with his wife, Sharon. He was actively doing just that when he passed away unexpectedly Thursday afternoon, June 15, 2000, upon arrival at the Pella Regional Hhealth Center.
Marv was a member of the First Reformed Church in Pella, the Marion County Pork Producers Association, the Marion County Cattlemen Association, the Iowa Blacksmiths and Welders Association, and was co-chairman of the Lake Prairie Township Association.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Sharon; their two children, Wendy, age 17 and Scott, age 15, both at home; his mother, Katherine Seekamp of Pella; and his two brothers and two sisters and their families: Steven Seekamp and wife Gail of Otley, Gloria Butler and husband Roger of Ankeny, Delores Holtz and husband Douglas of Atlantic, Iowa, and Joel Seekamp of Pella. Marv also leaves his step-grandmother, Thelma (Toms) Seekamp of Norwalk, Wisconsin and his parents-in-law, Melvin and Leona (Vos) Pothoven.
Marv was preceded in death by his father, his maternal grandparents, and his paternal grandparents.
