John M. Seay was born near Abington, in Washington County, Virginia, May 2, 1824. He died in Monroe Oct. 6, 1909. He was thus at the time of his death 85 years, 5 months and 4 days old. In 1849 he moved from Jefferson Co. to Jasper Co. and settled in Monroe, which at that time went under the name of Tool’s Point. He made Monroe his home for 60 years.
He was married in December, 1855 to Miss Jane M. Schenck. His surviving children are: Mrs. Lizzie McComas, Monroe, Iowa, Mrs. Mary C. Dixon, Sherman, Texas, Mrs. Clara Nelson, Reasnor, Iowa, Mrs. Anna E. Briddell, Ortonville, Minn., Geo. A., John M., Indianola, Iowa and Wallace O. Monroe, Iowa
