Services Held
Services were held for DeVerne N. Schippers Friday, March 31, 2000, at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. Pastor Greg Baum officiated the services. Interment was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
DeVerne N. Schippers, son of Arnold M. and Jessie (Van der Kieft) Schippers was born in Monroe, February 5, 1933. A 1951 graduate of Monroe High School, he served in the United States Army 1953-1955 in the Korean War. On March 18, 1955 he was united in marriage to Jane Schakel at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. DeVerne was a systems analyst with Maytag retiring in 1993 with thirty-eight and a half years of employment. He also had farmed for most of his life. DeVerne passed away at the Knoxville Veterans Administration Hospital on Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the age of 67 years.
He is survived by his wife Jane, a daughter and son-in-law Teresa and John Strunk of Moravia, a son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Deborah Schippers of Monroe and their two children Rebecca and Trent Schippers. Also surviving is a sister Arlene Jean Van Wyk of Knoxville and two brothers, Wayne of Otley and Gary of Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his parents. DeVerne was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and faithfully attended the Monroe First Baptist Church.
The family has designated memorials for the Monroe First Baptist church.
