Services Held
Funeral services for Paul M. Schakel were held Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the First Baptist church in Monroe. Pastor Greg Baum officiated the services. Interment was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Paul M. Schakel, son of Dirk Richard and Sophia (De Larm) Schakel, was born near Prairie City, May 12, 1906. He attended school in Prairie City and graduated from the Prairie City High School in 1925. On November 28, 1929, he was united in marriage to Letha Kinart at the parsonage of the Monroe First Baptist Church. A farmer, Mr. Schakel enjoyed gardening and the out of doors. He was a member of the Monroe First Baptist Church, where a memorial in his memory has been established.
Mr. Schakel is survived by his wife Letha, a daughter, Jane Schippers, Monroe, a son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Beverly Schakel, Monroe, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, an infant daughter Baneta, a son La Vern, three sisters: Ruth Pegram, Grace Bowens, and Pearl Schakel and three brothers: John, LeRoy, and Luther.
