Karen Jean Samuelson, 58, of Newton died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Merle Smith, Chaplain of Skiff Medical Center in Newton, officiating. A private family burial will be at a later date at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be available from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to Hospice of Jasper County and may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of James F. Marshall and Margaret (Koder) Marshall, she was born Jan. 13, 1946, in Newton. She graduated from Monroe High School and was a graduate of AIB College of Business in Des Moines. On Jan. 25, 1969, she married Bill Samuelson in Newton. She was a data processor for many years for GTE and also at the Newton Corrections Facility for eight years. She retired in April. She enjoyed fishing, boating and playing bingo. She was a charter member of the Lady Elks.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Richie Samuelson of Brooklyn and Bret Samuelson and Dana Dykstra of Newton; two grandchildren; her mother, Margaret Bailey of Newton; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Linda Marshall of Newton; and a sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Jim Henning of Kellogg.
She was preceded in death by her father, stepfather, Blackie Bailey, and her maternal and paternal grandparents.
