Bonnie’s Celebration of Life with a Coffee Time will be from 2-5 p.m., Saturday, August 20th at the funeral home.

A private family burial at the Newton Union Cemetery will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the family (Please make checks payable to one of the children and put Bonnie’s Memorial on the memo line). The memorials will be used for a project at the arboretum and may be left at the funeral home. Memorials may also be mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Hansen Family on the envelope.

Bonnie Mae (Freeborn) Hansen, the daughter of Lester William and Vyvenne Della (Warwick) Freeborn was born November 5, 1934 in Deep River, Iowa. She was a graduate of Barnes City High School in Barnes City, Iowa.

On April 2, 1955, Bonnie was united in marriage with Howard D. Hansen in Montezuma, Iowa. They were blessed with nine children, Michael, Connie, Craig, William, Lori, David, Leslie, Patrick and Brad. She was a stay at home mom and homemaker. Bonnie and Howard owned and operated Hansen Electrical Plumbing and Heating. She was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton. She loved having her family with her and going to the grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. She also loved to travel, work in her garden and do canning. Bonnie was a loving and caring wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.

Bonnie died surrounded by the love of her family on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton, she was 81. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Howard in 2010; and brother, Sheldon.

Those left to cherish Bonnie’s memory are her children, Michael (Brenda) Hansen of Newton, Connie Kearns of Newton, Craig (Deb) Hansen of Johnston, William (Cheryl) Hansen, Lori (Gary) Yoder, David (Sheri) Hansen, Leslie (Rick) McNew, all of Newton, Patrick (Lisa) Hansen of Kansas City, Missouri and Brad (Joleen) Hansen of Newton; 47 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, her brother, Francis (Linda) Freeborn of Des Moines; her sister-in-law, Doris Freeborn of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 11 Aug 2016.
