Otley news – Garlen Ruby, 58, died unexpectedly at his home in Otley Sunday morning, August 12. Services were held Wednesday, August 14, from the Garden Chapel in Pella with the Rev. Frank Snuttjer officiating with burial in Monroe Cemetery.

Life Story of Jessie Ruby
Jessie Garlon Ruby passed away very suddenly at his home in Otley on August 11. He had been an Otley resident for the past 34 years where he was engaged in the contracting business of operating earth moving equipment. At the time of his death he had reached the age of 58 years, seven months and 29 days.
Garlon was born in Keokuk County on December 12, 1909, the son of Jord and Ida Leota Mae (Larimore) Ruby. On July 11, 1933 he was united in marriage to Olive Laura O’Haver at Fairfield. His wife survives him, along with two daughters, Mrs. Keith (Berniece) Swanson of Waukee and Mrs. Henry (Donna) Jensen of Newton. There are seven surviving grandchildren. Four sisters also survive him. They are Mrs. Henry (Velma) Glenn of Agency, Mrs. Milton (Helen) Keck of Fairfield, Mrs. Wayne (Golda) Angove of Otley and Mrs. Fred (Maxine) Elsensohn, who resides in California.
Garlon was preceded in death by one son, who died in infancy.
Funeral services were held from the Pella Garden Chapel with the Rev. Frank Snuttjer officiating on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 1:30 p.m.
“The Old Rugged Cross” was sung by Mrs. Lawrence Dykstra accompanied by Mrs. Donald DeReus.
Casket bearers were Joe Horman, Edwin Horman, Ivan P. Kaldenberg, Ray Van Wyk, Myron Van Wyk and Harry Van Waardhuizen.
Interment was made in the Silent City Cemetery of Monroe.
