Renaud, Dorothy Thelma Elwood Miller – 1916-2009

Dorothy Miller Renaud passed away January 28, 2009. Services were held Monday, February 2, 2009, at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Interment was in Hewitt Cemetery near Reasnor.
For those desiring, memorials may be designated for Bible Truth Publishers or Journeys, a program of Hospice of Pella.
Dorothy Thelma Elwood was born on July 27, 1916, near Galesburg, Iowa and educated in the Monroe, Iowa school system. She was the third of eight children born to Thomas G. and Sarah Ellen Beem Elwood. Dorothy was married on May 27, 1934, to Ishmeal James Miller in Monroe and two children were born to this union. Thelma Ann on June 6, 1935 and Betty Lou on February 6, 1938. The couple resided in Galesburg and then moved to a farm west of town where they resided until 1959. They then moved to a farm in Monroe and lived there until 1984 when they retired and moved to Pella, Iowa. Ishmeal passed away a few weeks short of their fiftieth anniversary on April 14, 1984. Dorothy was united in marriage with Paul Edmund Renaud, a family friend whose wife had passed away four years earlier, in Pella, Iowa on May 3, 1986, and they lived on Hazel Street and at Vriendshaap Village in Pella until his death on August 7, 2006. She continued to live there until the spring of 2008 when she moved to the Hilltop Manor and subsequently to Long Term Care at the Pella Regional Health Center.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters and their husbands: Thelma and Delbert Moslander of Cottonwood, Arizona and Betty and John Nunnikhoven of Chester, Vermont; and her grandchildren: Linda Davis, BJ Corn, and Robert Buckley, Tony, Kimberly and David Nunnikhoven. Dorothy leaves four stepchildren: Kathy Renaud of Ohio, Nancy (Jim) Thomson of Tennessee, Margaret and her husband, Scott Brinkmeyer of Pennsylvania, Paul A. Renaud and his wife, Linda of New Sharon, Iowa; and one sister, Ruth (Wayne) Renaud of Pella, Iowa; along with the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: James R. Renaud of Sully, Iowa, Edmund and Miriam Renaud of Iowa Falls, Iowa, Gerrit and Jane Renaud, Mark and Patricia Renaud of Pella, Iowa. Leo and Marguerite Renaud of Des Moines, Iowa, Lydia (Henry) Roossinck of Michigan, Mary and John Verratti of New York, Florence (Carrol) Renaud and Grace (John) Renaud both of Pella. There are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren from both families who also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Ishmeal Miller and Paul E. Renaud; one grandchild, Bunny Renaud; her parents, Thomas and Sarah Elwood; a step-son-in-law, Jim Thomson; her two brothers: Edward Elwood, who died at a young age and Gilbert Elwood; four sisters and their husbands: Margaret and John Breuklander, Martha and Harold Ginther, Loretta and Jacob Stiernemann, Lois and Robert Albee and her brother-in-law, Wayne E. Renaud. She was an excellent homemaker, wife and mother who enjoyed sewing and gardening, and one whose baking skills were enjoyed by all.
