Funeral services for George W. Ramage were held Monday afternoon, March 11th, at 2 o’clock at the Pella Funeral Home in Monroe.
Mr. Ramage succumbed at his home Friday morning after a lingering illness. Death was due to pneumonia and complications.
George Washington Ramage was born in Bell Valley, Ohio, on Feb. 26th, 1873, and departed this life at his home in Monroe on March 8th, 1940, at the age of 67 years and 11 days. As a small boy, he moved with his parents to Indiana, living there until he was 21; he then went to Kansas, remaining there for two years, after which he came to Iowa where he has lived ever since.
He was united in marriage to Jennie May Sharp in 1901, and to this union were born eight children, Ida dying at the age of 15 years in 1923. He leaves to mourn his loss, three sons, Garfield, Edward and Kenneth, all of Monroe; four daughters, Mrs. Giles Awtry of Galesburg, Mrs. Merle McCuen of Colfax, Mrs. Wilbur Postma of Newton, and Mrs. Merle Danley of Colfax. Also four sisters, Mrs. W. C. Largey of Chariton, Mrs. Mary Kerr, Mrs. Etta Reinhardt, and Mrs. William Jackson, all of Bloomington, Indiana and two brothers, A. I. Ramage of Bloomington, Indiana and A. C. Ramage of Bedford; and one half-brother, Robert Ramage of Indianapolis, Indiana; also an aunt, Mrs. Sam Crow of Darlington, Missouri, and several other relatives, among which are eight grandchildren.
Having lived for a generation in this immediate neighborhood, no eulogy is necessary, for there are many who will rise up to call his name blessed.
Dr. W. A. Stevenson, minister of the United Presbyterian Church in charge of the services, and Mrs. W. B. Shaw, accompanied by Mrs. Carl Crane, sang “Sweet Bye and Bye” and “What A Friend We have in Jesus”. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.
