Services Held
Services for Ralph Dean Poortinga, of Knoxville, were held Friday, May 25, 2001 at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville. Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Mr. Poortinga, 71, passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2001 from a heart attack at Knoxville Area Community Hospital.
Ralph was the son of Cora Verwers and Frank R. Poortinga, and was born August 1, 1929 in Otley. On May 4, 1949, he married Edna Lucille Nugteren. He farmed in the Otley and Monroe areas and in August 1991, they retired and moved to Knoxville. He was a member of the First United Methodist church and Methodist Men’s Group in Knoxville.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and a son-in-law, Francene Joyce Poortinga, and Lois Elaine and Wes Sable, all of Knoxville; two grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.
