Oakley M. Poortinga, 83, of 400 E. 8th St. S. died from complications of renal failure Wednesday, May 16, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Graveside services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Hewitt Cemetery in rural Reasnor with the Rev. Duane E. Skidmore, pastor of Reasnor United Methodist Church officiating. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
No visitation has been scheduled. Memorials to Newton Elks Lodge 1270 will be accepted at the funeral home.
The son of Eba and Nellie B. Ramer Poortinga, he was born June 5, 1917 in Reasnor. He attended school at Pleasant View County School. On Dec. 9, 1945, he married Doris A. Watson in Nashua. He lived on a farm southeast of Reasnor from 1956 until moving into Newton in 1994. He was a farmer and auctioneer at the Kansas City, Mo. Stockyards and was a member of Elks Lodge 1270.
Survivors include a daughter, Marlys Neuse of Glendale, Ariz.; one grandchild; and a sister, Faye McGregor of Reasnor.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
