Services Held
Funeral services for Frank E. Poortinga, 78, a resident of Monroe since 1969 and a farmer in the Monroe community for 41 years, were held Friday, April 27, 1984 at the United Methodist Church in Monroe.
The Rev. Bernard Payne conducted services. Burial was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
He died Tuesday, April 24 at Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Survivors are his wife, Lois; a son Freddie John of Slater; two daughters, Mrs. Jake (Freda) DeGreef of Kellogg and Mrs. John (Jean) Wilcox of Newton; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Edith Nearmyer of Newton and Mrs. Willis (Jennie) Nearmyer and Evelyn Walker, both of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Georgia Mae, and a brother, John.
The son of George and Katie Meyers Poortinga, he was born March 27, 1906 in Monroe.
He married Lois Woodyard June 15, 1927 in Des Moines.
