Pella, IA – Francis G. Poortinga, 71, of Pella, died of cancer Monday at Ottumwa Regional health Center. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Otley Reformed Church in Otley. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Mr. Poortinga was born near Pella. He retired from farming, after which he sold seed corn. He was a member of Otley Reformed Church, a former soil conservation district commissioner for Marion County and a former member of Consistory, board of directors of Otley Co-op and zoning board of adjustment in Marion County.
Survivors include his wife, Francene; a daughter, Lorraine Verros of Pella; a son, Gene of Pella; a sister, Blanche VanderLinden of Pella; and six grandchildren.
Friends may call anytime today at VanDyk-Duven Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to World Home Bible League.

Services Held
Funeral services were held for Francis G. Poortinga of Pella, on June 4, 1986 at the Otley Reformed Church. Rev. Marvin C. Beukelman officiated. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.
Francis Poortinga was born on January 27, 1915 west of Pella, the son of Garret F. and Dena Slot Poortinga.
On Feb. 1, 1939 he was united in marriage with Francene Schilt at Otley and to this union two children were born: Lorraine Carol and Gene Arlan.
He passed away June 2, 1986 at the Ottumwa Regional Health Center in Ottumwa where he had been a patient for the past two months.
Surviving are his wife, Francene; their two children and their spouses: Lorraine and Norman Verros: Gene and Helen, all of Pella; six grandchildren; and his only sister, Blanche, Mrs. Gerald R. Vander Linden, also of Pella.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
