Eba Poortinga Rites held Wednesday
Eba Poortinga, 73, a resident of Jasper county for more than 70 years, died at his home in Newton Sunday. Death was attributed to a heart condition.
Funeral services for Eba Poortinga, 73, a resident of Jasper county for more than 70 years, were held Wednesday at the Toland funeral Home.
The Rev. Herbert Phillips, pastor of the Reasnor Methodist church, conducted the services.
The soloist, Mrs. Maurice Rodgers, was accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Paul Murdy.
Pallbearers were Elmer Achtemeier, Walter Hobbs, Robert E. Meyer, Joe Sjaardema, Louis Vander Pol and Ralph Woody.
Mr. Poortinga is survived by his wife; Nellie, a daughter, Mrs. Willard (Faye) McGregor of Reasnor; a son. Oakley Poortinga of Reasnor; and two grandchildren, Marlys Poortinga and Kay McGregor.
The son of Siebe and Grietge Poortinga, he was born June 26, 1886 in The Netherlands. He came to Jasper county when he was two years old.
Mr. Poortinga was married to Nellie Ramer March 1, 1914 at Reasnor. He was a retired farmer.
