Life Story of Mrs. Garret Poortinga
Funeral services were held March 6 for Mrs. Garret Poortinga, 87, of Pella at the Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella. Rev. Henry J. Vermeer officiated with Rev. R. A. DeJong assisting. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Dena Slot Poortinga was born July 4, 1884 at Otley living in the Otley and Coalport neighborhood with her parents till her marriage March 4, 1914 in Otley.
She is survived by her husband Garret Poortinga; a son, Francis G. Poortinga; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Blanche) Vander Linden; three grandchildren, Mrs. Norman (Lorraine) Verros, Gene Poortinga and Mrs. Steve (Vickie) Story; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Peter (Maggie) Van Peuruseum of Prairie City.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob M. Slot; a brother, John Slot; and a sister who died in infancy
