Services for John Benjamin Paxson (Johnny Klassic) of Granger, Iowa were held June 6 in Unity Church, Des Moines with interment in Lincoln Cemetery near Granger. Born May 10, 1932 in Allendale, Missouri, to Arthur and Goldie (Stevens) Paxson, he died June 3, 1990 of a heart attack at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
After serving 3 years in the army, he lived in the Central Iowa area the remainder of his life including rural Monroe 1965-79. He had retired from Firestone in Des Moines and was pursuing a career as a country western singer at the time of his death.
He was married June 2, 1956, to Daisy Clark Young at Dunreath (now Monroe). To this union 3 children were born: daughters June DeHaai Paxson of Des Moines, Mrs. Mark (Nancy) Van Hal of Omaha, and son Clayton of Nacogdoches, Texas.
Preceded in death by his parents and one brother, he is survived by his 3 children, wife Linda, 3 stepchildren, two brothers, Frederich of Kelly, Iowa, and David of Des Moines, one sister, Leota Brackett of El Dorado, Kansas, and 9 grandchildren: Jayson and Janine DeHaai of Monroe; Jeffrey and Erick Van Hal of Omaha; and Deryk, Sean, Jessica, Candace, and Aaron Paxson of Texas.
