Services Held
Services for Rachel G. Mick, were held Saturday, September 1, 2001, at the Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. Rev. Greg Baum officiated the services. Burial was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Rachel passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2001, at Clearview Manor in Prairie City from heart failure.
Memorials may be donated to the First Baptist Church in Monroe or Clearview Manor in Prairie City.
The daughter of Ben and Laura (Renaud) Monsma, Rachel G. Mick was born January 4, 1910, in Lynn Grove, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Ervie Mick in Sully, Iowa. A Jasper County resident all of her life, Rachel was a housewife most of her life and worked for several years in the kitchen with the Monroe School District. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe and was also active at the Faith Baptist Church in Prairie City.
Rachel is survived by three sons, Marvin Mick and his wife, Sharon, of Des Moines; Ronald Mick and his wife, Martha of Oswego, Illinois, and Vernon Mick of North Little Rock, Arkansas; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Margaret DeJong and her husband, Arthur of Sully, Iowa, and a sister-in-law, Wilhelmina Monsma of Pella.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1961, a brother, and two sisters.

Prairie City – Rachel G. Mick, 91, of Prairie City died Wednesday, Aug. 29, of heart failure at Clearview Manor in Prairie City.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe with the Rev. Greg Baum officiating. Burial will be at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Friends may call Friday after noon at the funeral home where family will be present from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorials will be accepted to the First Baptist Church in Monroe or Clearview Manor in Prairie City.
The daughter of Ben and Laura Renaud Monsma, she was born Jan. 4, 1910, in Lynn Grove. She married Ervie Mick in Sully and lived in Jasper County all of her life. She was a housewife and worked for several years in the kitchen of the Monroe School District. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Monroe and was also active in the First Baptist Church in Prairie City. She enjoyed flower gardening and bird watching.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Marvin and Sharon of Des Moines, Ronald and Martha of Oswego, Ill., and Vernon of North Little Rock, Ark.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and Arthur De Jong of Sully and a sister-in-law, Wilhemina Monsma of Pella.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and two sisters.
