Rites Held Today for Richard Meyers
Richard (Dick) Meyers, 58, a long-time resident of the Monroe Community, died Tuesday at Collins Memorial Hospital in Knoxville.
Mr. Meyers was taken to the hospital Friday after suffering a heart attack.
Services were held this afternoon (Thursday) at the Monroe Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Brong officiating. Mrs. Devayne Honnold was organist with Mrs. Juanita Dockum soloist. Mrs. Ted Reetz and Mrs. Willard Wilson were in charge of flowers.
Pallbearers were Mrs. Ted Reetz, Noland Schmitt, Howard Finn, Harold Rankin, Harold North, and Elbert Moore. Interment was in the Monroe Cemetery.
Mr. Meyers is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Hubert (Mildred) Price of Monroe and Mrs. Melvin (Delores) Valentine of Newton; a son, Kenneth E. Meyers of Alconbury, England; 10 grandchildren; and two brothers, Chet Meyers of Prairie City and Martin Meyers of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Kate, Martha and Etta.
The son of John and Jane Meyers, he was born April 10, 1901 in Jasper county. He was educated in Prairie City schools.
He was married December 2, 1920 to Alberta Sellers.
