Services Held
Services for Orie Albert Messick, 83, of Newton, were held Thursday, March 1, 2001, at the Pence Funeral Home in Newton. Rev. David Wendel, Senior Pastor of the First United Methodist church officiated the services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery. He passed away February 27, 2001 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton of heart failure.
Born April 20, 1917, in Gult, Iowa, Orie was the son of Elmer Clevland Messick and Jessie Elvira Thompson. He attended 12th grade at Newton Senior High School. September 12, 1941, he married Velma Bernice Arndt in Memphis, Missouri. Orie had worked at Parsons Company in the Machine Shop and Assembly in Newton. He was a member of the Newton First United Methodist Church.
Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Dennis Dean and Colleen Messick of Newton; one daughter, Linda Lou Cross of Monroe; 5 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cleo Nimmo of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Velma Messick on March 21, 2000; a brother, a sister; and a son-in-law, Wayne Cross in 1995.
