Newton, IA – Irene A. Meindertsma, 69, of Newton, a homemaker, died of cancer Friday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Mrs. Meindertsma was born in Monroe. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge and Palo Alto Grange.
Survivors include a son, Peter Jr. of Kailua, Hawaii; three daughters, Maxine Marilyn Dodd of Grapevine, Texas, Martha Ann Foster of West Des Moines and Judy Kay Martin of Phoenix; four sisters, Engeline Jarnagin of Prairie City and Mary Ball, Ruth Pauls and Ann Hardenbrook, all of Newton; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Moose Lodge.

Services Held
Funeral services for Irene A. Meindertsma, 69 of Newton was held May 12, 1986 at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, conducted services. Burial was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
She died Friday at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Survivors are a son, Peter Meindertsma, Jr. of Kailua, Hawaii; three daughters, Maxine Marilyn Dodd of Grapevine, Texas, Martha Ann Foster of West Des Moines and Judy Kay Martin of Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and four sisters, Engeline (Mrs. Hugh) Jarnagin of Prairie City, Ruth (Mrs. Robert) Pauls and Ann (Mrs. Lester “Hap”) Hardenbrook all of Newton.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Peter and two brothers, Virgil and Marion.
The daughter of Elmer and Julia Johanna DeBruyn Birkenholtz, she was born Jan. 1, 1917 in Monroe.
