November 16, 1924 - July 27, 2016

John W. Plate, age 91 of Prairie City, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, at Sunny View Care Center in Ankeny. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the church. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Colfax Senior Center and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The son of Tim and Geraldine (Rouw) Plate, John was born on November 16, 1924, in Monroe. On February 20, 1947, he was united in marriage to Jeanetta M. Steenhoek. John farmed in the area most of his life. He was a member of the Prairie City Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed fishing and going to coffee time to visit with friends but most of all he enjoyed his time delivering meals in Prairie City.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Ronald (Sharon) Plate of North Little Rock, Arkansas and Connie Plate of Prairie City; three grandchildren, Lisa (Derek) Curless, Justin (Natasha) Plate and Valerie Plate; and six great grandchildren, Reegan, Kytilin, Natalia, Tayven, Zander, and Ryker. Also surviving are his four sisters, Joan (Don) Ryerkerk of Pleasant Hill, Helen Tibboel of Prairie City, Kathryn (Erwin) Frerichs of Ankeny and Marge Van Wyk of Prairie City as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding John in death were his parents, his wife, in 1999, and two brothers, Donald and Edward. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 27 July 2016.
