Memorial services for Gene McKeever were held December 17, 2006, at Living Waters Church in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Rev. Michael E. Thomas officiated the services. Interment was private.
Gene Vance McKeever, 76, of Crystal Lake, died Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington, Illinois, following complications after surgery.

Gene was born August 28, 1930, in Otley, Iowa, to Ren V. and Alma F. (Frazer) McKeever. He married the former Louise "Larie" Gandrup on November 7, 1954, in Story City, Iowa. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953, where he was involved with the Radiological Warfare School. He was a graduate of Monroe High School in Monroe and the Des Moines Business College with a degree in Accounting. He later received his degree in Safety Engineering. He was employed by Crum & Forster Insurance Company for 30 years, first in Des Moines, then moving to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and later to Freeport and Oak Brook, Illinois.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years; his son Scott S. (Cari) McKeever of Crystal Lake, Illinois; his daughter Jill (Scott) Irwin of Bellevue, Nebraska; five grandchildren; his sister, Betty F. Wilcutt; sisters-in-law Norma Gandrup of Ames, Iowa, and Marianne J. Gandrup of Story City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law Burton E. and Cora S. Gandrup; brothers-in-law Forrest E. Wilcutt, Harry D. Gandrup and Wallace B. Gandrup.
