Life Story of Viola McConeghey
Mrs. John (Viola) McConeghey of Monroe passed away at the Skiff Memorial Hospital in Newton January 17 at the age of 91 years, six months and 18 days.
Viola was born near Pella on June 19, 1877, the daughter of J. W. and Ella Prosser George. At Monroe on October 30, 1894 she was married to John M. McConeghey, who passed away in 1916.
She is survived by five of her seven children: Mrs. Fred (Faye) Kane and Glenn McConeghey, both of Monroe; Mrs. Howard (Olive) Finn of Newton; Mrs. William (Flossie) Caldow of Phoenix, Ariz. and Mrs. Jack (Thelma) Petted of Newton. There are 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews surviving.
Besides her husband, John, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Howard (Myrtle) Neff; a son, James McConeghey; one grandson, one brother and three sisters.
Mrs. McConeghey had been a member of Tool’s Chapel Methodist Church for many years and was now a member of the Monroe United Methodist church.
Funeral services were held from the Monroe Methodist Church on Monday, Jan. 20, with the Rev. James V. Poulsen officiating.
Mrs. William Lewis sang “Beyond the Sunset” and “Sunrise Tomorrow” accompanied by Mrs. John LeGrand.
Casket bearers were Robert Ratcliff, Robert Finn, John Petted, Harold Heyveld, James McConeghey and Robert Short.
Interment was in the Gifford Cemetery near Monroe.
