Life Story of Wm. A. McConeghey
William A. McConeghey, 98, a lifelong resident of the Monroe community, passed away January 18 at the Rest Haven in Newton where he had been a patient for 2 ½ years.
Mr. McConeghey was born near Monroe, the son of Alexander and Elizabeth Bigley McConeghey, August 29, 1873.
He was married October 9, 1897, to Lottie Ann Foglesong. They farmed in the Tool’s Chapel area before moving to Monroe where they lived for three years before Mrs. McConeghey’s death in September 1951. Mr. McConeghey lived in the home in Monroe until 1961 when he made his home with various members of the family.
Mr. McConeghey was a member of the Tool’s Chapel United Methodist Church until its closing at which time he became a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, and a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Van Haaften.
He is survived by four sons, Carl McConeghey of Knoxville, and Keith, Paul and Dale McConeghey of Monroe; four daughters, Mrs. Leslie (Cecile) Terpstra of Searsboro; Mrs. Leonard (Ruth) Vande Kieft of Des Moines; Mrs. Lory (Helen) Gause of Lynnville and Mrs. Robert (Eva) Michels of Ventura, Calif.; 27 grandchildren; and 49 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Rev. Warren McFate, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in Monroe Silent City Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Bybee and Davis Funeral Home in Knoxville until 10:30 a.m. Friday and at the Monroe Methodist Church from 11:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.
Friends may contribute to a memorial in his honor at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
