Life Story of Fay McConeghey
Fay Allen McConeghey was born September 1, 1895 at McCloud, Okla. The daughter of William and Laura Allen. She was the next to the youngest of six children, a sister, Ruby Madsen (deceased); a brother, Dayton Allen (deceased), a brother, Coe Allen of Jackson, Mich.; a brother Perle Allen of Sequim, Wash.; and a sister, Thelma Fitzgerald of Davenport. The family also included half brothers and sisters, Hugh Allen (deceased), Flora Stone, Margaret Endsley, Bill Allen and Don Allen (deceased).
She lived in Oklahoma until the age of 6 when she went to live with an aunt and uncle, Miles and Victoria Alcorn of Allerton. She made her home with them until at 13 her brother, Dayt and sister Ruby took her and her younger sister, Thelma, to live with them.
In Des Moines she became a member of the Methodist Church which she continued throughout her lifetime. She graduated from West High School in Des Moines and also attended Cummings Art School in Des Moines before becoming a teacher in rural schools in both Polk and Jasper County.
She was joined in marriage to Keith McConeghey of Monroe on May 26, 1922. To this union were born five children, Keith Allen, who died at birth; Mrs. Arnold (Eileen) Pille of Des Moines, Charlotte McConeghey of Des Moines, Mrs. Lyle (Victoria) Herwehe of Ankeny; and Miles McConeghey of Monroe.
In addition to her husband, children, brothers and sisters, she leaves nine grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
Funeral services for Mrs. McConeghey were held Saturday afternoon at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Warren McFate, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in Monroe Silent City Cemetery.
