Services Held
Services for Carl Ray McConeghey were held Friday, June 15, 2001, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville. Rev. Leon Hodges officiated the services. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.
Carl passed away June 12, 2001, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines at the age of 96 years.
Carl Ray McConeghey was born on January 2, 1905, in rural Monroe, Iowa, the son of William Alexander McConeghey and Lottie (Foglesong) McConeghey. He was raised in the Monroe area and attended school there. As a young man he worked as a farm hand. Carl moved to Knoxville in 1930 and went to work for the V.A. Hospital. On October 14, 1939, he was united in marriage to Alma Morene Harvey in Des Moines. The couple always made Knoxville their home. Carl enjoyed gardening and was still able to mow his own lawn.
Carl was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, I.O.O.F. Lodge No. 90; National Association of Retired Federal Employees; Tadmor Chapter 18 R.A.M.; a life member of the Marion County Historical Society and a 50 year member and past master of Oriental lodge No. 61 A.F. & A.M.
Survivors are two brothers; Paul McConeghey of Pella and Dale McConeghey of Monroe; three sisters: Ruth Vande Kieft of Des Moines; Helen Gause of Newton and Eva Michels of Ventura, California; 24 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Alma in 1992; a brother, Keith McConeghey; two sisters, Mabel Van Haaften and Cecile Terpstra, and four nieces and nephews.
