Services for Alma Morene McConeghey were held March 20, 1992, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Knoxville. Officiating was Rev. Leon Hodges. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery.
Alma passed away March 18, 1992, at the Knoxville Area Community Hospital at the age of 94 years. She had entered the hospital for hip surgery in March, and her sudden passing was attributed to heart failure.
Born July 14, 1897, at Goldfield, Iowa, the third oldest of seven children, she was the daughter of Narvy and Karen Jensen Jarvy. Alma graduated from Iowa Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in 1922 and nursed in Des Moines, Wyoming and Los Angeles. She moved to Knoxville in 1934 and was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital until 1939. It was that year she was married to Carl McConeghey and retired from nursing at the Veterans Administration.
However, she taught Red Cross nursing home classes and took care of family members.
Preceding her in death were her parents, three brothers and one sister. Surviving members of her family include her husband Carl, two sisters, Norma Sprague of Forest Hills, Maryland and Gladys Bjorklund of Eagle Grove, Iowa. Also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews.
