James R. Marshall, 87, died March 6 at Collins Memorial Hospital in Knoxville.
He was born June 24, 1892, to George and Ulissa Arabella (Tool) Marshall in Jasper County. On Feb. 27, 1911, he married Maybell Shaw. The couple had four girls and three boys.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Hubert (Violet) Schrader of Monroe: Mrs. Leo (Cecile) Kinion of Monroe, Mrs. Svend (Lucille) Anderson of Newton, and Mrs. Eugene (Rosamond) Thompson of Fort Bragg, Calif.; two sons, Maurice of Lexington, Ky., and Millard of Niceville, Fla.; one sister, Eva Beamer of Lorrington, Wyo., and one brother, Hubert of Monroe. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Maybell, one son Frank, and five sisters, Ada Marshall, Winifred Beamer, Beatrice Palmer, Florence Hasselman, and Frances Sheeler.
He was a retired miner and farmer and was a member of the United Methodist Church in Monroe.
Services were held Monday at the United Methodist Church of Monroe. Interment was at Silent City Cemetery near Monroe. Arrangements were made by Garden Chapel funeral Home.

Life Story of James Marshall
Funeral services were held Monday, March 10, 1980, at the United Methodist Church in Monroe for James R. Marshall. Rev. Jerry Wolcott officiated with interment in the Silent City Cemetery near Monroe.
James R. Marshall passed away on March 6, 1980, at the Collins Memorial Hospital in Knoxville.
He was born June 24, 1892, to George and Ulissa Arabella (Tool) Marshall in Jasper County, Iowa. On February 27, 1911, he was united in marriage with Maybell Shaw. To this union were born four girls and three boys.
He is survived by four daughters: Mrs. Hubert (Violet) Schrader of Monroe; Mrs. Svend (Lucille) Andersen of Newton, and Mrs. Eugene (Rosamond) Thompson of Fort Bragg, Calif., Mrs. Leo (Cecile) Kinion of Monroe. He is survived by two sons: Maurice of Lexington, Ky., and Millard of Niceville, Florida; one sister, Eva Beamer of Lorrington, Wyo., and one brother, Hubert of Monroe. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Maybell, one son Frank; five sisters: Ada Marshall, Winifred Beamer, Beatrice Balmer, Florence Hasselman, and Frances Sheeler.
He was a retired miner and farmer.
After the death of his wife in 1976, Mr. Marshall was able to remain in his own home thanks to the faithful help of Myra Rankin.
He was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church.
