Services Held
Fred Manning, 64, a resident of Newton for 52 years, died May 31, 1992, at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines after suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Reese Chapel.
The Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.
Survivors are three sons, Jesse Rodriguez of Des Moines, Art Rodriquez of Newton, and Jerry Manning of Monroe; five sisters, Betty Messerly, Marilyn Kannenberg and Bonnie Burgart, all of Des Moines, Carol Bogart of Newton and Donna Eddy of Mitchellville; 15 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a brother, Lee, of Lancaster, Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Connie, and a brother Keith.
Mr. Manning who had served in the Army during World War II, was a former member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and presently was a JCVP volunteer.
A collector of classic Mustang automobiles, he had been a window glazer at Dealers Warehouse until retiring in 1990 and had operated Fred’s CB shop.
The son of Jesse F. and Nettie Gardener Manning, he was born September 26, 1927, in Queen City Missouri, and attended Queen City schools.
He was married to Connie Vasquez November 24, 1947, in Des Moines.
