Life Story of Donald Manley
Funeral services for Donald Ernest Manley, 60, of Newton were held Monday at the Johnson Reese Chapel.
Dr. Dorothy Forsythe and David Nelson conducted the services.
Military graveside rites were conducted at the Newton Union Cemetery.
He died Saturday evening at his home.
Survivors are his wife, Colleen; a son, Ronald of Newton; six daughters, Mrs. Richard (Nancy) Mackerman of Reasnor, Mrs. Lyle (Kathy) Thurman of Mesa, Ariz.; Mrs. Robert (Jayn Ann) McKeever of Newton; and Sue, Becky and Mary Jean, all at home; five grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Crystal Crady of Newton; and a number of other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Mike in 1965, and a brother.
Mr. Manley owned and operated the Lewis Greenhouse for 31 years. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, MOC, Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge.
He served in the Army during World War II.
The son of George and Jennie Manley, he was born Nov. 17, 1917 at Rex 5 coal camp near Lovilia and attended Lovilia and Newton schools.
He was married to Colleen Habour Nov. 9, 1947, at Albert Lea, Minn.
