Services Held
Delno “Del” Warren Maddy, 86, of Winterset, Iowa died Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at the Winterset Care Center North in Winterset from complications associated with Alzheimer’s.
A visitation was held at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset, where a memorial service immediately followed. A second memorial service took place at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 25th at the Monroe United Methodist Church in Monroe. Burial of the cremated remains took place Saturday at the Olive Chapel Cemetery, south of Attica.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Winterset Care Center North, Middle River Hospice of Winterset, or the Monroe United Methodist Church Choir.
Delno was born September 17, 1919, in Columbia, Iowa, the son of Frank and Mary (Kutz) Maddy. He graduated from Knoxville High School where he won awards for his singing ability and was #1 in the State for his trombone playing. He married Betty Frye on September 14, 1941, and to this union 3 children were born: Frank Edward, Roxanna “Sue”, and Richard Eugene. Betty passed away December 26, 1984, from cancer and Delno later married Daisy (Lenocker) Clements on March 26, 1988.
Delno farmed on the home farm in Attica, until deciding to move to Pleasantville and start a dairy business where he milked cows and pasteurized milk for Hiland Dairy. He and his wife Betty, delivered milk door to door and made and sold their own Maddy Dairy Ice Cream. Later, in 1964, they started a franchise with Dairy Sweet in Monroe, Iowa. After his marriage to Daisy, he moved to the Winterset area.
Survivors include his wife, Daisy of Winterset; two sons, Frank Maddy (Thoma Lou) of Bluff Dale, Texas and Richard Maddy (Sharon) of Bremerton, Washington; a daughter Sue Miller (Dwain) of Oskaloosa; three step-daughters, Diana Partlow (Roger) of Menlo, Darcy Livingston (Greg) of Winterset, and Deb Stover (Paul) of Lorimor; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Halleck (Mike) of Colorado, Heather Rapkock (Michael) of Texas, Todd Miller (Amy) of Oskaloosa, Tricia Epping (Bob) of Texas, Tammi Knipp (Dan) of Waterloo, Travis Miller (Angela) of Oskaloosa, and Ryan Maddy of Bremerton, Washington, eleven step-grandchildren, Chris Partlow (Jen) of Menlo, Amy Orbon (Donnie) of Florida, Karrie Larsen (Todd) of Des Moines, Lance Livingston of St. Charles, Derrick Livingston (Karie) of Des Moines, Justin Livingston of Winterset, Ben Murphy of Des Moines, Danyelle Stover of Des Moines, Amber Schwabe of Mitchellville, Josh Stover of Lorimor and Spencer Stover of Boone; a brother John Maddy (Wilma) of Des Moines; and 25 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Betty, a sister, Hollace Garrett, and a stepson, Dennis Clements.
