George William Lust, son of Peter and Kathryn Lust, was born Feb. 16, 1859, on a farm east of Monroe, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Reasnor, Iowa, January 24, 1935 at 10 p.m. at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 13 days. His entire life was spent near Tools Chapel with the exception of 6 years, which was in Nebraska, and the last 6 years in Reasnor.
He was united in marriage to Nannie Elizabeth Rexroat, Oct. 20, 1887, to this union was born 9 children, 2 of whom preceded him in death, in infancy. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, 5 daughters and 2 sons: Mrs. Ralph Tice, Mrs. Ira Lewis, of Newton, Lawrence Lust, Mrs. Dick Van Baren of Des Moines; Mrs. Herman Nollen of Pella; Leland and Mabel of Reasnor. Three grandchildren, Russell R. Van Baren, Wanda Lou Lewis, Carroll Roger Lust. Two brothers and two sisters, Riley and Edd Lust, and Mrs. O. E. McBride, Mrs. Will Ramer and a host of relatives and friends.
He was converted at Tools Chapel in a revival meeting held by Rev. Hartley in February 1880, and joined the Methodist church at Tools Chapel, of which he has always been a faithful and devoted member and worker. His cherished interests were in his church where his influence has been a pillar of strength, a power among the young people for many years. The family were all at his bedside when the spirit of our loved one triumphantly entered the Great Beyond. We feel that loss of a loving husband and father, but our loss is Heaven’s gain; for we know that he could say with Paul: “I know in whom I am believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which I have committed unto Him, against that day.”
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Tools Chapel by Rev. Hodgson of Reasnor. A male quartet composed of Ivan Broderson, George and Clarence Tool and Chris Vander Pol, sang three selections which were requested by the deceased: “We Are Going Down the Valley, One by One,” “Beautiful Robes” and “Meet Me There.” The pallbearers were Raymond and Fred Koder, Ed. Coaker, Morgan Woody, Ray Swartz and Ern Wilson.
