J. R. Livingston was Jasper County Pioneer
John Robinson Livingston was born in Mt. Gillead, Morrow county, Ohio, April 3, 1826 and passed away at his home in Fairmount, Iowa, October 10, at the age of 82 years. When a young man he came to Iowa with his par-
(NOTE: some text is missing) where he farmed for several years. In 1862 he was united in marriage to Eliza A. Murphy and to this union eight children were born, four boys and four girls. Three died in infancy and October 7, 1900 a daughter, Mrs. Maggie G. Carnahan passed away. His wife and four children are left to mourn his death. The children are Minne E. Ross, Hettie Taylor French, Arch and Carl W. Livingston, all of whom were with him when he died.
Mr. Livingston had been a resident of Jasper county for 63 years, thirty-five years of which he lived at Reasnor, where he owned a general merchandise store. He was elected justice of the peace at Reasnor several years. He was a member of the Methodist church at Reasnor and was interested in every movement for the betterment of the church and community. He was highly esteemed by the people of the communities in which he lived. He was a very well read man, and especially did he take much interest in the present world war. With almost his last breath he said that he only wished that he could live until the Dutch were whipped, as he knew they would be.
Funeral services were held at Fairmount Sunday afternoon and burial was made in the Newton cemetery.
