Services Held
Services for Harry Lewis were held Wednesday, May 27, 1992 at the United Methodist Church in Monroe. Officiating were Rev. Jerry McGee, pastor, and Rev. Rick Cowman. Interment was at Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Harry Lewis, the son of Charles Lewis Sr. and Gladys Hummel Lewis, was born on August 3, 1925, in Monroe. He was educated in the area schools and served in the United States Army during World War II. On May 18, 1947, Mr. Lewis was united in marriage to Etta Belle Ross at the parsonage of the Methodist Church in Monroe. A lifelong area resident, he was employed at the Parsons Company in Newton as a certified welder. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #997. Mr. Lewis passed away at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines on Friday evening, May 22, 1992.
Surviving is his wife Etta Belle, five children, Vicky (Mrs. Frank) Kingery, Monroe, Betty (Mrs. Larry) Eilander, Newton, Gary Lewis, Reasnor; Terry Coxe, El Reno, Oklahoma, and Jerry Lewis of Newton. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, a sister Georgia (Mrs. Ivan) Ross, Monroe, and two brothers; J. H. Lewis and Harley Lewis, both of Chariton.
Preceding him in death were his parents, a brother Charles Lewis Jr. and a sister, Roberta Ross.
