Services Friday
Memorial services for Helen Marie Lewis will be held on Friday, May 27, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Monroe United Methodist Church. Burial will take place at Gifford Cemetery. Visitation for Helen will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2005 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Walters Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe.
Helen Marie Lewis, age 85 of Monroe, died Monday, May 23, 2005 at Hospice of Pella Comfort House. The family has designated that memorials be given to the Hospice of Pella Comfort House. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
The daughter of Lloyd and Ethel (Moore) Hamilton, Helen was born on May 11, 1920 in Centerville, Iowa. She graduated from Mercer High School in Mercer, Missouri in 1938. On April 25, 1942 she was united in marriage to Charles H. Lewis, Jr. in Princeton, Missouri. She moved to Monroe in 1943. Helen worked for American Equity Insurance as a special services representative until poor health forced her retirement in 2003. Helen truly loved her career as well as spending time with her grandchildren and their families.
Survivors are a daughter, Linda Bennett and her husband William S. of Monroe; four grandchildren, Dawn Ulrey and her husband Scott of Monroe, Michael Lewis and his wife Cheryl of Grinnell, William Bennett Jr. and his wife Victoria of Newton, and Rebecca Ver Heul and her husband Brian of Monroe. She also leaves nine great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband in 1989, an infant daughter, Janet; a son, Keith in 1986, and a brother, Marvin.
