Leeds, Mass. – Steven Rex Lester, 33, of Leeds, formerly of Des Moines, a publication designer in the art department for New England Monthly magazine, died of cancer Wednesday at Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City. Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Monroe. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery there.
Mr. Lester was born in Des Moines and had lived in Monroe. He previously was the co-founder and art director for Bloomsbury Review in Denver, Colo., was a former member of the Graphic Artist Guild and had served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Anne; his mother, Joyce Lester of Monroe; a brother, Stan of Des Moines; and a sister, Brenda Clayton of Croughton, England.
Memorials contributions may be made to Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, Conn.
Larson Funeral Home in Rock Island, Ill., is handling arrangements.

Services Held
Steven Rex Lester, 33, of Leeds, Mass., died Wednesday, April 9, 1986, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Iowa City.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Monroe United Methodist Church. The Rev. John McKinstry, pastor of the Howard Street Christian Church in Colfax conducted services.
Burial was in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Survivors are his wife, Sharon; a brother, Stan Lester of Des Moines; a sister, Brenda Clayton of Croughton, England; and his mother, Joyce Lester of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his father.
The son of Rex and Joyce Pershall Lester, he was born June 9, 1952 in Des Moines.
He was married to Sharon Anne White Oct. 6, 1984 in Middlebury, Conn.
