Life Story of John H. Lester
John H. Lester, 77, of Monroe, a lifelong resident of Jasper County, died Monday at Des Moines General Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday (today) at the Monroe United Methodist Church.
The Rev. Warren McFate, pastor of the church, will conduct the services. Burial will be in McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax.
Survivors are his wife, Velma; four sons, Thomas Eugene of San Diego, Calif., Burton Lee of Newton, Harold L. of Cedar Rapids, and Howard of Knoxville; two daughters, Mrs. Clarence (Anna Belle) Parker of Monroe and Mrs. Kenneth (Ruth) Quhn of Newton; 20 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son in infancy and his first wife, Minnie Gertrude Hodge; three brothers and four sisters.
Mr. Lester, who was an employee at Maytag Co. Plant 1, was a well-known tiler and tree cutter.
He was a member of the Methodist Church.
The son of John H. and Cortney Robinson Lester, he was born July 24, 1894, at Colfax.
He was married to Velma Wilson Lutz November 7, 1962.
Mr. Lester had resided in Colfax and Newton before moving to Monroe in 1962.
