Leonard, Mason Pierce – 1988-2008

Mason Pierce Leonard, 20, of Holstein, IA died on Friday August 8, 2008, from injuries sustained in a two-car accident west of Holstein. Services were held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Galva-Holstein High School Gymnasium with pastor Bob Stout officiating. Burial was in the Holstein Cemetery. Visitation was at 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, August 11, 2008 at Nicklas D. Jensen Funeral Home in Holstein.
Mason was born July 9, 1988, the son of Keith and Francené (Neff) Leonard. He attended and graduated from Galva-Holstein High School in 2007. He had finished his first year at Iowa State University and was pursuing a Journalism major. Mason was a member of the Quimby Baptist Church.
Mason was a very unique individual who was always true to himself. He had a strong will and believed in substance-free living. Mason encouraged those around him to enjoy life without alcohol or any other substance. Mason loved music, movies, shopping, and friends. He also enjoyed reading, delving into new technology, wakeboarding, water-skiing, skateboarding, and most recently, fishing. Mason enjoyed spending time with his extended family, especially his cousins. He had a great sense of humor and made the people around him feel good. He was a gentle soul who always cared about people’s feelings and was very sensitive himself. If Mason set his mind to do something, he would accomplish it. He lived his life to the fullest. He was a very passionate person and channeled that into various avenues. In school, he provided memorable moments in plays, speech improv and band. He tried every sport except cross-country for a least one year.
Mason is survived by his parents, Keith and Francené Leonard of Holstein, his friend and brother, Derek of Lismore, Minnesota, and Derek’s fiancé Shawna Nelson, grandmother, Evelyn Leonard of Holstein, grandparents, Francis and Violet Neff of Monroe, IA, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He also is survived by Alexandria ‘Allie’ Walker, Mason’s high school sweetheart and very special friend.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather. Ransom C. Leonard and cousin, Cason Hutton.
