Services held Sunday For Rozella Le Grand
Funeral services for Mrs. John (Rozella) LeGrand, 93, a lifelong resident of the Monroe community, were held Sunday at the Monroe Methodist Church.
The Rev. James Poulsen conducted the services. Burial was in the Monroe cemetery.
Mrs. Wayne Lubberden played instrumental music.
Pallbearers, nephews of Mrs. LeGrand, were Lloyd and Lyle Clevenger and Doyle, William, Dale and Earl Kane.
Rozella Kane LeGrand, daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Cowman Kane, was born April 13, 1871 at Fairmount, Iowa, and passed from this life September 18, 1964 at Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 5 days. Her entire life was spent in the Fairmount and Monroe area.
She graduated from the Monroe high school in the class of 1890 and the Jasper County Normal Academy. For several years she taught in the rural schools of Jasper county and the Monroe public school.
On December 28, 1904 she was united in marriage to John Wesley LeGrand. To this union were born two sons who survive, Erle of Monroe and Cecil of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Besides her sons, she is survived by a niece, Martha Kane Baer, who for 20 years made her home with her aunt; one sister, Mary Lyons of Elmore, Minn.; three brothers, Fred and Ross of Monroe and Aretas of Texas; three grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.’
Mrs. LeGrand was a lifelong member of the Monroe Methodist Church and served it in many capacities. She was a charter member of the WSCS and a member of both the Loyalty and the Martha and Mary Sunday school class.
She had been a member of chapter BH PEO for 63 years.
