Lanphier, Kenneth Lain – 1940-2010

Kenneth Lain Lanphier, age 70 of Monroe, died Thursday, May 27, 2010, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of life service was held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at the Monroe Presbyterian Church.
The son of Arnett and Leona (DePenning) Lanphier, Kenneth was born on May 21, 1940, in Reasnor, Iowa. He was a graduate of Monroe High School. On July 3, 1960, Kenneth was united in marriage with Shirley Honnold at the Presbyterian Church in Monroe. Kenneth was employed at Parsons Manufacturing for eighteen years and in sales for Moorman’s Manufacturing for twenty years. Later in life, Ken worked part-time at Prairie Meadows, Two Rivers Co-op and Gateway Recreation.
Kenneth and Shirley looked forward to spending their winters in Palm Springs, California was well as spending their falls in Colorado observing the wild life. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, coffee time at Tim’s garage, rooting on the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. His true enjoyment came from watching his grandkids’ school and sporting events. He loved and supported all PCM athletic events, especially the PCM golf teams of which he was a true friend of many of the boys. Kenneth also enjoyed golfing and loved spending time at Gateway Recreation golf course in Monroe. He proudly served as a member of the Monroe Fire and Rescue Unit for over forty years.
Survivors are his wife, Shirley Lanphier of Monroe; children, Karri Woody and her husband Stan of Reasnor and Kevin Lain Lanphier and his wife Andrea of Monroe, one granddaughter, the apple of his eye, Brooke Woody; three grandsons, Devon Woody, Noah Lain Lanphier, and Gabe Lanphier; one brother, Delmer Lanphier of Vancouver, Washington and one sister, Twyla McJunkins of Malvern, Arkansas. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers; Merlin and Ivan Lanphier.
Memorials may be given to the Monroe Recreational park or Monroe Fire and Rescue. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.
